The first requirement of principle centered leadership is that the servant leader be found faithful. The strongest attribute demonstrated in a  leader's life must be trustworthiness. And that trustworthiness must be exhibited in every area of the leader's life.  

The ability to foster follow-ship is at the essence of the servant leader. This is reflected in the leader's ability to talk with people at their level, take positive steps to praise and congratulate employees in public, be easy to work with and for, motivate employees to exceptional personal performance, and celebrate projects’ successes. It also manifests itself in the ability to listen and be a team player. Leaders put people before goals by showing generosity and compassion.

Principle centered leadership is visionary and strives to actually change the future. It is optimistic in believing that actions will make a difference; that the rewards will outweigh potential negatives. Persistence is characteristic of principle centered leadership.

Principle centered leaders are able to clearly and concisely communicate their ideas and vision, both in writing and verbally, knowing that it is the communication of the vision that inspires confidence in their ability to lead.

These leaders desire to make the world a better place. This desire may be seen in their sense of community, in their hope to increase people’s standard of living or solve a significant societal problem, or in their desire to make a difference at a fundamental level. They are business-like in their dealings, competent at handling situations, and deliberate in decision-making, financially astute, and selfless managers. They know profits are needed to stay in business and they understand how to make a profit. They are organized, take time to plan. They can grasp or create the big picture and then can effectively communicate the smallest details to others.

A servant leader knows that good judgment comes from experience, and experience comes from doing. They are intuitive, creative, analytical, leading edge, outside-the-box thinkers. They are guided by their inner sense, or gut feeling that generally guides them to make the right decision. Their highly developed  intuition allows them to be insightful about challenges, and perceive things others cannot.
